Men Read Fiction Too!
A Book Club to Mold Literary Men
Look, you don’t need another person to tell you that reading has been on the decline - more so among men. And if you’re tired of hearing the words ‘male loneliness epidemic,’ I get it.
I’m not here to talk about the how and why on those topics (of which are many, as are my thoughts on them). You and I have likely read or watched videos on it, so let me instead tell you my solution: A Male-Centered Book Club!
The club started both as a desire to escape my own loneliness by connecting with new people in a new city and a genuine want for us men to be better (particularly in reading). After the first three meetings, I realized the club offered something better: a community.
I won’t bore you with the emotional details in how great it is to have long, thought provoking, philosophical discussions on numerous topics from the now 6 books we’ve read. Nor will I relish you with the laughs from the amazing connections made so far this year. I’ll tell you simply:
If you identify as a man, this is for you.
If you barely read books, this is for you.
If you predominately read nonfiction, this is for you.
If you already read a ton of fiction, this is for you.
The only caveat, we do not meet online.
I’m adamant that to to escape a certain loneliness, we must meet in person.
In order to grow this book club more organically, I started an online book club where you can come discuss our monthly reads.
Of course, this Substack can still be used to socialize and interact with other club members. If you would like to start your own chapter in your city, please message or email me and we’ll discuss it. Alongside all that, I’ll be posting my own thoughts on reading and my experiences around the topic.
The ultimate goal of this Substack and Book Club is to encourage men, young and old, to read more fiction and discover the transformative experience a great book can offer! We read every kind fictional genre, from authors of all backgrounds. I believe it's important to read a book you wouldn't normally read to broaden our thoughts and challenge our preconceived notions.
Below you’ll see our list of books for the year and the date we meet, which is on the final Thursday of the month. Discussion thread will be posted that day to discuss our thoughts on the monthly book. As you can see, it’s an eclectic list:
The best way to get back into reading is to read short, contemporary books you want to read. However, the individual can struggle to make a habit of it and not be at a consistent level they’re comfortable with. This is where ‘Men Read Fiction Too!’ comes in. To discuss, reaffirm, and connect with every man who reads or wants to get into it. To always encourage every single person to read more.
Let’s change the statistics one book at a time!
Stay tuned for more articles, opinions, and updates! And if you have any questions, just let me know!

Really good stuff, Dude. I’ve been struggling to read consistently and except for my lit degree a long time ago, I don’t really know any readers, except the ladies at the library and the college girls who actually use our fiction section (medical library). Our tastes do not jive.
Gonna go hunting for a book club. I’ll DM you if I don’t find one and have to do this myself.
I’m all in but I’m in Phoenix. Where is this club?
